Herbert Kretzmer was a South African-born English journalist and lyricist. He is best known as the lyricist for the English-language musical adaptation of Les Misérables as well as for his long-time collaboration writing the English-language lyrics to the songs of French chansonnier Charles Aznavour. He was honoured by the French government, being appointed Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters. In 2011, he was appointed Officer of the Order of British Empire.
