The war between humanity and the Image, a mysterious life form from space, has already spanned half a century.
In the year 2054, there is a boy on board the Eureka, his childhood friend who was kidnapped eight years ago, and to return home.
But fate decides to test the love between Eureka and Renton and puts them through many trials. Duty and emotions, truths and lies, past and future, life and death, reality and dreams, and Holland. New, good story maybe even better than the series though the romance could have been better depicted with better dialogues, eh the same for the series. Nevertheless worth the time! :P

Its a very good movie and better than you think. But if you can't stop yourself from comparing it negatively to the tv show then don't bother watching it.

Not bad at all. Nice story mostly about love. I have a little problems with understanding whole story and i think i'm not alone, so 8/10 and 'recommended' only.

Excellent movie. It isn't related with the series but it's still good to watch. New story that is really good. A must see.

The recommendation I selected was "For Fans"? but actually I would suggest the opposite. Too many things have been turned on their heads. For example the Image are invading Earth - What? Did they not watch the series at all? The only similarity to the series is most of the Characters, though often greatly changed and a bit of social background. This movie would have been much better as an independent effort with no pretense of being related to Eureka Seven.
Still, it might be enjoyable if you did not watch the series.

A totally different story. Only some main plots transferred from the series. Most all of the same characters make at least cameo appearances. Very enjoyable overall.

This movie is an alternate story using characters similar to those in the TV show. Familiarity with the TV show is thus recommended although not required to fully understand and appreciate (more on that in a second) this movie.
As a fan of the TV show, I was very disappointed by the movie. Sure, it's great to have more E7 after so long (almost 3 full years after the TV show), but aside from a few visually appealing scenes, this (mediocre) movie just doesn't do justice to the (excellent) TV show.
The script was absolutely horrible and the alternate story is paper thin (they could have told it in half the time without all the reused TV scenes - of which there are a lot). Heck, they even turn Eureka (the main female protagonist) into a total weakling
, not at all as deep and interesting as her TV counterpart. Animation wise, it's pretty much he same as the 2006 TV show which in 2009 isn't necessarily a good thing, the visuals could have been improved well beyond the slightly sharper lines (compared to the TV show) and few out of the ordinary scenes depicted in the movie, but it isn't bad per se.
Most of this movie's character interaction is either characters calling each other's names repeatedly or them saying how much they love each other (which gets boring fast and is frankly very contrived to begin with). With the limited time the movie has to explain the world it's set in and develop the characters it all just doesn't come together properly. Few of the Gecko crew in this version are likeable and it's the opposing side (the world gorvernment) that ultimately turns out to be more interesting. Aside from the Renton/Eureka duo (the main characters) pretty much everyone is a bad guy and events fly by without arousing much emotion or interest. Maybe with more time this movie could have been better but the premise and execution is so weak that it isn't very salvageable to begin with.
Ultimately, if you never saw Eureka seven before and are desperately looking for some romance mecha anime you probably would like part of this movie (although there are better things to watch out there - Macross for example), but would be better off if you watch the TV show to know more about the characters. If you saw the TV show however, do yourself a favour - avoid this movie, it just runs the E7 world into the ground, better not taint your memories of the original with this.

(although her sacrifice in the end is a pretty good touch - the red band in her eyes disappeared so it's not the Eureka from the beginning of the movie that you see in the end, it's the realisation of her wish to be with Renton)
