The recent epidemic of moralfaggotry among the TVTropes staff has left me in despair! strongly disappointed with the current state of my formerly favorite wiki. First they removed Kodomo no Jikan, and now Sengoku Rance. At the same time, King's It was excused for depicting an orgy with several children because "a horror is meant to be repulsive", and Lolita stays despite having actual pedophilia, unlike KnJ, by the virtue of being critically acclaimed. Anyway, those are not the only examples of the recent purge and the hypocricy of the pretentious morallistic douchebags umm.... istration but they're the ones that left the strongest impression on me. There was also the issue of Fate/Stay Night being completely removed by accident (someone had put in on the hentai index). Now, that by itself was not much but the following weeks of discussion of whether the wiki "needs"/"wants" that page had left a bitter aftertaste somewhere in my memory.

[/rant]

Anyway... So, what are your thoughts on the recent changes in TVTropes policies?

Thx for the links.

I've been reviewing this for quite a while and I think I know what's also happening (I also think you do).
The main thing here is that there are no rs who give a proper amount of cash that allow heavy NSFW material and SFW material among delivering proper ads for the pages. The best r they have is google adsense and they need the money to survive! As always, the guy with the cash is the guy who dictates the rules.
Due to that, their only option is to prone all heavy NSFW material. I believe it's also something they didn't really wanted to do even though I believe they wanted to tune down some of the most heavy NSFW material... As they had the 2nd cut in their paycheck they had no other way than to be tougher they wanted and they had to be equal to all and.... You the the rest... P5 and such...

About my opinion... There are things I didn't want it to have cut like KnJ and kissXsis (the Tv series) among other good works that are pushing the boundaries of what's legal or not but I have no strong argument to prevent it...

This seems like a legit resume of what happened. Does any other member of this club have anything else to add?

Such moralfaggotry. The ment revenues can be a partial reason but some 5P people are surely riled up to root perversity for as the main reason (and not just a tool for more revenues).

But it's not like they're the only people playing moralfaggotry. Wikipedia for example is under same rule and you could say they've gone even further by weeding out editors who may be (non-rapist) pedos even if they haven't made any pro-pedo edits on Wikipedia. tyciol for example has been blocked from editing (mostly anime and Japan related) articles despite no misuse of editing rights.

TVtropes at least got around to make their stance official. Wikipedia not only applies the rules to edited content (non-sourced pro-pedo opinion statements would indeed be BAD at Wiki's credibility) but also to 's off-site statements - without no such guideline... or more specifically clearly against their non-discrimination guideline. Wiki's banning guideline practice is more related to moralpanic than moralfaggotry (i.e closer related to Satanic Ritual Child Abuse than "omigosh, sex, drugs and rock & roll"), though.

I still consider it funny than pro-pedo material has been banned specifically when all "just stating an un-sourced opinion" is stuff that should and will be removed even when such unsourced statement wasn't related to a taboo subject. They could use "unsourced heresay" as a valid reason to clean pro-pedo stuff from their site without a separate guideline. It's not like pro-pedo movement actually have any credible sources to refer to. If you have to block pro-pedo AND bullshit from a site, separately, then it's comparable to itting that pro-pedo stuff is not bullshit (otherwise it could be handled as bullshit as most of that stuff is).

Anyway, that's enough rant about Wikipedia. I just think the pedo-hate is pretty universal - though it doesn't make it rational. TVtropes isn't a factual wiki but recreational so weeding facts from fiction is less necessary. Weeding out pedo is thus purely a moral decision - either direct, or giving the power of influence to rs who do the decision of moralfaggotry for them.

Still, new TVtropes guideline is The Shit. It's not just pedo stuff but all sex related tropes being taken to a spin-off site dedicated for perversions alone (essentially killing the visitor hits). It takes the fun out of it. Old and dead TVtropes compared to new and clean TVtropes is like EncyclopediaDramatica compared to OhInternet, or UrbanDictionary compared to answers.yahoo.com

What a crapsack world to return to after the summer... and here I thought at least one fun place was free from the PC-asslicking, hypocrisy and the shit. At first, I thought that this would be just against pedo-like content, but nope, seems like almost all pornographic content gets removed and any semi-pornographic/suggestive/sexistic stuff are on the watchlist; and for this medium we know well what it means for many titles and likely for some of the tropes as well. Sigh, It's always about the money in the end.

Plus, perhaps sad in itself that it takes to have a new (unfortunate) policy change to get comments 'n' discussion to this club, lol.

I've seen info about FastEddie. He's just a guy without much knowledge in this anime and japanese culture and our likes. He knows a lot about American stuff (including animation) but does not know actually where's the borderline from a japanese point of view... Oh well... it's his website, what can I(/we) do?

Fast Eddie has gone on forum record as saying something like, "I'm not an anime/manga fan. I skip articles on those subjects. Apparently there's a feeling in that community that this sort of thing (fictional pedophilia/lolicon) is okay. It's not. While this started in response to the Second Google Incident, it's being continued out of my (and other mods') deep personal revulsion to pedophila."

So basically, anime and manga fans should go have a seat over there because they're all pedophiles, and there's no overriding site revenue/survival issue at stake, it's just a moralistic crusade, primarily focused against anime and manga titles. Note how they deleted and later restored 50 Shades of Grey, despite considering it too pornographic, probably because it's extremely popular/notorious in North America. Meanwhile, an anime like Popotan, which was released by not one but two publishers in North America without any child porn controversy, gets the ax.

After learning of the policy implementation, I elected to take my site visits from "frequent/daily" to "rare/weekly," and to delete all links/mentions of the site from my bakabt torrent descriptions. If traffic's all that they care about, hit 'em where it hurts. (several hours later) And on a drunken note, f you, TVtropes, I once loved you, but if you're not going to have useful information about the "O LOLI?" shows I enjoy (while not being an IRL pedophile or preying on real young girls), then you're dead to me.

If we want to attack tv tropes because of this where it hurts the most, we should attack where it reeeeally hurts the most! Let's just keep loading and loading and loading pages over and over and over but block all ads. Without ads there's no revenue and server resources get exhausted.

If this is made by a load of ppl and a load of ppl start attacking tv tropes for this drastic action we can bring tv tropes to its glory.
There's a huge need to remove what's really porn form tv tropes I'm still kinda against it but it needs it to survive. I've been searching for some time, I didn't find any ads serving company that allows to be placed in a website that shows porn stuff and SFW stuff at the same time. Even though some allow SFW they always show what they want which will include heavy NSFW (even NSFT (not safe for teens)) stuff.
But what they now call peodo-pandering needs the right to stay! He needs to understand that ppl understand other cultures and many of that peodo pandering is just plain normal for japanese culture (ditto, I did't find anything classified as peodo-pandering that is not japanese culture related stuff)

Yes, because fapping to drawings of fictional children clearly hurts real children.

I am constantly baffled, time and again, by the logic (or lack thereof) of some people.

And I have a deep revulsion toward genocide (I actually consider it way worse than pedophilia). Yet I approve articles like "Colony Drop".

The people most disgusted about pedophilia are the most likely to generalize harm to
A) fictional porn (lolicon),
B) non-fictional non-porn (anything a pedo could fap to, no matter how non-suggestive and how much clothes on) or even
C) non-pornographic fiction (such as "all anime, no exceptions").

And the funnies part is the most vocal crusaders are think that they could be tainted by granting the accused a chance to prove him/her wrong. If a crusader for example thought all anime is porn (just because so many Google hits give anime porn), and someone presented the challenge of watching [pick any of the thousands non-hentai and non-borderline anime titles], they would probably refuse. Either they suspect that their own volition on crusade wouldn't hold (therefore some port of them know they've made a mistake but just refuse to it fault and imperfection in themselves), or they really feel that should that title indeed not be clean enough, the crusader would be tainted forever in eyes of other crusaders.

A similar thing also happened when Finland's "child porn" Internet censorship was activated, and a critique blog against the censorship was put on the national blocklist by the police (who still refused to press charges or do anything official accusation the blogger could have defended against and be acquitted of). The Information Minister for example presented a prime example of guilty unless proven otherwise as she said that "one should be able to trust the police"... so, if police says there's (even if they don't start an official investigation) then there is. Obviously, she didn't bother to check the censored pages herself before defending the censorship of critique. It's also funny how some people are allowed to almost directly say that some other person is a distributor of , when there's no court verdict, no investigation, and the person accusing herself has not even viewed the evidence herself. Police's lack of liability is another topic. After all, blocking the site with a police announcement could be compared to putting yellow ribbon tape over a person's house reading "a pedophile lives in this house". The ironic part really is the 'not having to be found guilty or even accused of any crime' part.

Ok, this went too long into off-topic rant again.

Naaa it's fine and makes sense. FastEddie is abusing. But it's probably due to lack of knowledge of our kind. We need to force our point of view into their evaluation.
